I am a beginning amateur digital photographer and want to know what/where I can find the best photoshop to meet my needs for a decent price. I want to be able to enhance my images and do some creative digital alterations. Any advice?

Get Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 and start learning how to use it. If you ever go pro, you will have all the basic Photoshop skills and at that point the big bux you will pay for the full version of the latest CS will just be one more investment for your career

I use photoshop CS or v8 (the first CS). I find that I can do whatever I want. After Photoshop 7 they seems pretty much the same.

If you need to get it cheap, try finding a friend in college. They have great discounts for students. See:

Sometimes you can get old version on say on eBay from people and companies that moved on to the next version.

But also if you have not used PS yet, I would suggest getting video tutorials. I found books useless. PS is inherently visual medium but books are not good at that. It is like learning how to drive using a book.

I highly recommend using paint shop pro 8 photo edition it is inexpensive and has great software and is user friendly. photoshop pro is around 900.00 and very hard to learn. Or so i am told and read.

I recommand you to use Google Picasa to manage and edit your pictures.

Picasa is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you had) and sorts them into visual albums organized by date with folder names you will recognize. You can drag and drop to arrange your albums and make labels to create new groups.

Picasa makes sure your pictures are always organized. Picasa also makes advanced editing simple by putting one-click fixes and powerful effects at your fingertips. And Picasa makes it a snap to share your pictures ¨C you can email, print photos at home, make gift CDs, instantly share via Hello™, and even post pictures on your own blog.

free download in here, just have a try:

    Good Luck, Best Wishes!
