Image Modes in Photoshop

Posted on July 8, 2008 by Leave a comment

Color can be described in several ways using a color model such as RGB or CMYK. As you work in your image, you specify colors using one of the color models. In Photoshop you choose the approach to color that’s appropriate for your image and how it’s being used.

Soften the edges of selections

Posted on July 3, 2008 by Leave a comment

You can smooth the hard edges of a selection by anti-aliasing and by feathering.

Process:

  • 1. Select area that will define the feathered area.
  • 2. Choose Select-Modify-Feather
  • 3. Slect the inverse in order to feather the outside area
  • 4. Every tap of the delete key will delete the selected region with an applied feathering on the edges.

    Definitions:

    Anti-aliasing
Smooths the jagged edges of a selection by softening the color transition between edge pixels and background pixels. Because only the edge pixels change, no detail is lost. Anti-aliasing is useful when cutting, copying, and pasting selections to create composite images.Anti-aliasing is available for the Lasso tool, the Polygonal Lasso tool, the Magnetic Lasso tool, the Elliptical Marquee tool, and the Magic Wand tool. (Select a tool to display its options bar.)

Note: You must specify this option before using these tools. After a selection is made, you cannot add anti-aliasing.
    Feathering
Blurs edges by building a transition boundary between the selection and its surrounding pixels. This blurring can cause some loss of detail at the edge of the selection. You can define feathering for the Marquee tools, the Lasso tool, the Polygonal Lasso tool, or the Magnetic Lasso tool as you use the tool, or you can add feathering to an existing selection.

Note: Feathering effects become apparent only after you move, cut, copy, or fill the selection.

    Photoshop CS3 Layers

Layers are the building blocks of many image creation workflows. You may not need to work with layers if you are doing simple image adjustments, but layers help you work efficiently and are essential to most nondestructive image editing.
