Lightning Bolt

Add drama and atmosphere to any night shot by creating realistic bolts of lightning.

Press D to reset your foreground and background colours to their default black and white.

Create a new layer and select the gradient tool. (G). Click Linear Gradient.

Draw a gradient from top left to bottom right.

Go to Filter-Render-Difference Clouds. Go to levels and drag the white point slider to the left and mid-tone slider hard left.

Invert the layer by pressing ctrl + I. Use a black brush to paint out the white lines and white blur leaving the most realistics ones. Change the blending mode to screen.

Choose the Hue/Saturation dialog and tick the colorize box and choose a hue around 220. Finished.
