Creating a Rainbow

Add a convincing rainbow to any landscape scene in seconds using the Gradient Tool

create a new layer and select the gradient tool and click the gradient preview in the options bar and choose special effects and this will add replace the existing presets and then choose Russell's rainbow. Select Radial Gradient in the options bar. Enable transparency and then click and drag to draw your rainbow.

Create a layer mask and use a large soft edged black brush to carefully remove the bottom half of the rainbow.

use edit-transform to adjust the size if necessary and then drop the opacity to somewhere around 10-15% and you're done.
